5th MICTR – Marrakech International Conference on Tourism Research

Sara Sampieri participated in the 5th edition of the Marrakech International Conference on Tourism Research (MICTR) from 12th to 14th NOvember 2024, presenting her latest research: “Sustainable management for the tourism development of rock art sites: a comparative analysis between Val Camonica (Italy) and Jabal al Qahar – Al Reeth (Saudi Arabia).”

Developed in collaboration with Faysal Lemjidi, the study explores how sustainable tourism strategies can be effectively applied to rock art heritage sites located in vastly different cultural and environmental contexts—Val Camonica, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Italy, and the archaeological site of Jabal al Qahar – Al Reeth, in Saudi Arabia.

Drawing on prior experience in Val Camonica and on-site observations at the excavation in Al Reeth, the research proposes a set of guidelines for the sustainable development of heritage tourism in Jabal al Qahar – Al Reeth. These recommendations aim to ensure the preservation of cultural heritage while also promoting economic benefits for local communities.
